Situated on a hill behind the little city of Kastelli/Kissamos in the hamlet of Kounoupitsa lies the renovated farmhouse and stable Kastania Lodge. Some parts of the building are more than 100 years old. Originally it was a very small sheperds house but in the course of the years the previous owners expanded the house gradually.

With the renovation works we tried to keep the buildings as original as possible. On top of the main house we've build a new accommodation which is now the apartment.

The buildings are situated on a plot of appr. 3000 m2 and offers stunning views on the bay of Kissamos and the surrounding hills and mountains. Because of its location on a hill we were able to create several terraces which gives the lodge a special feel and assures our guests of privacy.

Also due to its location it is very calm and peaceful (although the crickets make a lot of noise in summer) but you are never far away from the lively and chaotic turmoil of Kastelli with its taverna's, shops, beaches and other amenities. You can walk (15 min), cycle (5 min) or drive (3 min) to the town centre.

Our lodge is a perfect base for visiting the breathtaking beaches of Falasarna with the famous sunsets and archeaological sites (15 min drive), the venetian city Chania (30 min drive), the "bounty" beaches of Grambousa (by boat, by car with a bit of hiking) and Elafounisi (50 min). And there is a lot more to discover in the backland when driving through the inland and coastal routes of west Crete.

On our premisses you can make use of our 50 sqm swimming pool with a bar that's self serviced when the barkeeper takes his siesta. On the top terrace (the Eagle's nest) one can enjoy a panoramic view on the bay of Kissamos. We have a barbecue available that you can use on your private terrace, along the swimming pool or the Eagle's nest.. Also we offer mountain bikes for rent.

And ofcourse we are at your disposal for information, questions and can help you if a problem occurs.

Every accommodation has internet connection and satellite TV.

Cleaning is two times a week and fresh towels (not beach towels) will be handed out on request.

The swimming pool is built well away from the buildings so that noise disturbance is kept to a minimum. The sunterraces provide ample space for sunbathing and in the evening you can enjoy a BBQ or diner right along the pool. The pool is open at all times, except for the times that it has to be maintained. However we do our best to do maintenance when our guests are on a day tour.

The music center in the bar is for public use so you can bring your own music (although not too loud).

In the evening the pool is lit so you can even swim at night.

Also we have some aqua fitness equipment available so you can get rid of the extra calories that you surely will get due to the rich Greek cuisine.

Right from your doorstep you can start hiking tours and we will be happy to advise you on the most beautiful routes. There is for example a wonderful hiking tour from the Sirikari gorge directly to our lodge (appr. 2,5 hours).

We rent out mountain bikes so you can discover the region on bike. Also we can provide massage, yoga and guided tours through nature in which you will be introduced in the rich herbal varieties and flora
